T’was a day to revel in the joys of fatty food, big ferris wheels,
and sweet, soulful indie. Passing through the security check, a man
equipped for a sizeable and potentially exhausting afternoon or maybe
a premature heart attack, I pulled out of my tiny case an orgy of
gummi bears, four slim, green cans of a certain energy drink 1
(exclusively for my own use I assured the steward), and a spray
bottle, from which the contents was swiftly emptied and the bottle
returned.

Such security measures were not warranted as the day proceeded
smoothly into afternoon and before long to evening. Barricades at the
front of the stage were low though not penetrated. The crowd was
refreshing – good-natured and harmonious – there was a great union
amongst a congregation of spectators sharing the same enthusiasm for
local music. And the bands delivered.

At some point in the afternoon I discovered the joys of the
merchandise stands. Some EPs are hard to come by and I found myself
forking out not unreasonable amounts and later departing with a whole
lot of things I didn’t have before.

Locating myself a plastic chair in the halflight, amongst a sea of
those with sights set on home or perhaps a bar somewhere, I became
aware just how many faces I recognised from the day. Recovering from
a brilliant excursion, I regretted there not being more of a focus on
fraternisation.

The next festival however, anticipated for the nearer half of 2006,
is eagerly awaited.
