Summer Harvest

Tue Jan 17 2006

Summer Harvest took on Port Macquarie and showed the locals what a
real youth gig is all about. The roof of the Switch Sk8 park was
nearly blown off by some of the east coast's up and coming rocking
bands. Including Soul Poets who were the first cab off
the rank warming up the crowd with some slammin beats and
hypnotising rhymes. Label representatives who made it along to the
day were more than impressed by local Port outfit 4PM Project who
funked up the stage and their little Sax player proved size is no
issue when it comes to funking up the brass. The 200 + crowd that
rocked up the gig also enjoyed metal outfit Serapis and acoustic
legend from Taree Broodie Booth, First Instinct did an amazing job
surviving a few power drop outs. All the folks that came from all
around to see rockers Killcare Beach were not disappointed, the
crowd went mad and that little room at the front of the skate park
must have been 205 degrees and lead singer James Kyle gave the all
ages audience a show that wont be forgotten for a while.

The group that took on the challenge of putting on Summer Harvest
did an awesome job, with most of them never putting on a gig of
this size, the group were also very pleased with the crowd turn up,
as Port Macquarie has a reputation of punters not showing up to all
ages gigs but the 200 + certainly proved that theory wrong that
their is an audience in that town and they are hungry for rock. The
gig was the end result of a mentoring program

The day was part of Sound Barriers first mentoring program, the gig
took place next to the very successful Festival of the Sun. Five
young people from Port Macquarie and the surrounding areas worked
alongside the organising team of Festival of the Sun for eight
weeks, holding their meetings online in the end creating Summer
Harvest. The team included organized , Garry Ryan 17 Graphic
(Designer(, Sam Wolstenholme 15 (Consultant), Edward Monley 18
(Festival Director), Sebastian Enemark 16 (Booking Agent) , &
Michael Tracey 18 (Promoter). Now that Port Macquarie has a great
team of experienced organisers Port Macquarie can look forward to
more all ages gigs, you haven't seen the last of the Summer Harvest
crew.
