I am writing to inform you that a momentous occasion occurred on Friday the 26th of August at Campbelltown Arts Center’s new performance space…that’s right AUSSIE MUSIC MADE ITS WAY TO GOOD OLD CAMPBELLTOWN!!!
You must imagine my surprise when I discovered that Irrelevant and Unpaid Debt who have supported some huge international acts like The Used and Goldfinger….graced us with a rocking concert at the centre. At 7pm 300 youngsters filed in curious to see what awaited them. The energetic strums by Levitikus heralded that it was show time. We all stood shoulder to shoulder as we jumped in unison to their energetic punk melodies. Not to be outdone by the famous visiting bands and to prove Campbelltown’s worth as a music scene to be reckoned with, Reception Fades helped Levitikus warm up the crowd with heart felt screamo punk. Levitkus and Reception Fades have set the standard for other Campbelltown bands to work hard to get on the line up for the future gigs being held at the Arts Centre such as the heavy night on October 7.
Another great aspect of the night is that the Arts Centre is introducing young bands from other areas and introducing them to the Campbelltown Music Scene. Young punk band Red Distress took to the stage with their Mohawks elegantly attired with business shirts and red ties unsure of what to expect. Just in case they had brought almost 50 friends with them to support them in this ‘unknown territory’ called Campbelltown. They were pleasantly surprised to have the crowd get in to their energetic set. The best part being when they yelled out that “Campbelltown sure beats Penrith when it comes to gigs” and it proved it by pelting out an energetic 30 minute set greatly supported by the untiring crowd.
There were some explosive moments when Harry from Unpaid Debt decided to jump off his amp a few times, much to the crowds delight.
All I can say is that I am stoked to finally see some bigger bands coming to Campbelltown and performing at a great venue. The venue is literally like a black box and is just big enough to hold a decent crowd but yet keep the concert intimate.
It was an awesome well run night and all I can say is “Campbelltown Arts Centre just keep on doing what you are doing and ROCK ON!!!” I hope to see you all next to me moshing at the next gig on the 8th of October.
