After a successful year in 2004, Rock Up – Battle of the Bands invited Dubbo and Bathurst to create their own battle with winners heading to the final. After fighting their way through two heats and a town final, against 30 other bands, The Rocks, HB40, Crest and The Flat Line Drama competed for the prize of recording time, a video shoot, as well as playing a show with the guys from Intercooler.
Given 30 minutes each to play and impress the judges, the bands took to the stage and rocked out to a crowd of almost 300 people. A highlight of the night was HB4O’s guitarist arriving halfway through their second song, fresh off the football field (he was captaining the school’s team in a local school footy comp). Dressed in shirt and jacket, coupled with footy socks and shorts, he helped the rest of the band through their set before taking off again to help his team win the match.
After Intercooler played an awesome set (which I’m sure won them many new fans), the winner was announced. The Rocks took out first place with The Flat Line Drama close behind. The Flat Line Drama got $500 for their amazing set and The Rocks will be recording soon – be sure to check it out (they’re also featured as artist of the month on this very website!)
Many thanks to Orange City Council, the Bathurst Rock Up crew and Dubbo City Council for their support and hard work in helping Rock Up to be as successful as it was.
